Socratic Method and the Nature of philosophy I will begin this paper with a brief account of Socrates because it is necessary for those who are not familiar with Socrates. It is as follows: Socrates (C. 469-399 B.C.) Athenian philosopher who allegedly wrote down none of his views, supposedly from his belief that writing distorts ideas. He believed in a purely objective understanding at such concepts as justice, love, and virtue, and the self-knowledge that he inculcated, were the basis of his teachings. And his method of teaching made him become the father of Western ethics and moral philosophy called Socratic method which is the oldest, and still the most powerful, teaching tactic for fostering critical thinking. In Socratic teaching we focus on giving students questions, not answers. We model an inquiring mind by continually probing into the subject with open ended questions for feedback to evaluate progress. This method of using questions to teach and evaluate performance is called the Socratic Method because it came from Socrates, the famous Greek philosopher and teacher. Yet......
