Comparison of Love In “A Worn Path” Eudora Welty focuses on the main character, Phoenix Jackson, and her journey to get her sick grandson’s medicine. Throughout this story we see that the theme of this short story is perseverance and dedication. In “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day,” William Shakespeare is comparing a loved one to a summer’s day. He uses this poem to show that his loved one will live forever in this poem. Just as the title of this poem suggests the theme of this poem is love. Although this short story and poem seem different they are very similar. Both “A Worn Path” and “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day,” are about strong, true love. The poem “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day,” is completely and utterly a love poem in its entirety. The theme of love is oozing from every line in this poem. We see this when Shakespeare states, “Thou art more lovely and more temperate” (766).
