Throughout the anthology Minimum of Two, Tim Winton implores the importance of letting go of the past and looking to the future. Set in south-western Western Australia during the 1980s Wintons characters are ordinary people who battle ordinary problems.
It is with the experiences of protagonists; Rachael Nilsam, Neil Madigan and Queenie Cookson that Winton uses to interweave his message of sexual equality and the significance of the abolishment of gender stereotypes during this period. The females in the text generally appear to have a direction and determination in their lives to get somewhere, this is the case for most but not all and is rarely evident in their male counterparts.
