‘Night’ is a memoir of Elie Wiesel. Not only was he awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1986, but is a survivor of the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps of the Second World War. Within the pages of this autobiographical novella there is a chilling, first-hand account of the man-made hell visited upon 8.4 million European Jews. The portrayal of Elie Wiesel’s vision of the Holocaust, and the events within, portray the grim facts of the extermination of so many innocent people. The novella then urges us, for the sake of humanity, now and for future generations, to never forget what happened. Mankind must remember that peace is not God's gift to his creatures; peace is our gift to each other. Others may question why Wiesel’s story matters now. It matters because without knowing the tales of our past we may repeat mistakes that were the holocaust, once again. Elie Wiesel wants us to be aware so that we can collectively prevent such a hellish situation from happening again. The pain and anger in these pages should not be forgotten. “For Gods sake, where is God?” ......
