One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s by Ken Kesey Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

What would you define the “combine” as? Some would define it as the dictionary would “harvest crops with machine: to harvest crops using a combine harvester” and others could define it as “ a collection of people who are so steeped in traditional culture that they will do anything to preserve it; the man, the system”. In the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest written by Ken Kesey the combine would be defined as the latter. Kesey uses his experiences from his life and puts it into one of the most well known novels out there. He wanted the world to know what he felt was happening to us, how “the man” controls our every move. The combine is very much alive in our years, just as it was in Kesey’s time. In One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Ken Kesey really uses his characters to create a world of chaos. Nurse Ratchet is one of our main characters and she is essentially “the man” in the novel. The reader is introduced to Ratchet by Chief Broom a mental patient in her ward. Chief describes her as mechanical like a machine. Throughout the novel Kesey uses her to show......
