Willys Way Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Willy’s Way Willy Loman is a traditional man with traditional values. He is very close-minded and only believes what thinks is right and will not tolerate anything else. His main concerns for his two sons, Happy and Biff are that they become very rich and fulfill his version of the American Dream. The dream itself however, is a flawed and unattainable one, as Willy builds up his children to be almost mythological. He compares them to Adonis in physique, and wants Biff especially to get through life on his charm and charisma alone. Willy's dream is flawed because it not only sets up a near impossible goal, but also because the road that Willy chooses to reach that dream isn't the best one – honesty and hard work. Although Happy and Biff both grew up with their father around preaching the importance of money and his version of the American dream, Biff and Happy believe that they weren’t brought up to be money lovers, “Hap, the trouble is we weren’t brought up to grub for money.
