In Blowback: The Costs and Consequences of American Empire, Chalmers Johnson uses 20th century history to anticipate 21st century blowback. Johnson uses examples from the corruption of military bases to America’s support of genocidal dictators and its training of terrorists like Bin Laden to America’s imperial hand in third world economic crises. Johnson tells of how America’s unintended consequences of its decisions may ultimately lead to its destruction. Johnson argued that U.S. interventionist foreign policy and military overextension would lead to unintended and unpredictable consequences. The US’s “innocent” interventions are a big problem causer; however, it is not the main cause of American blowback.
