Personality Theorist: Sigmund Freud Sigmund Freud’s remarkable contribution to the study of the human psyche cannot be denied, but many of his conclusions have come to be considered of lesser importance than what was once thought. Despite certain flaws pointed out by contemporary theorists, Sigmund Freud’s larger psychoanalysis theories are still believed by many psychologists, because there has not been a different theory which can rival Freud’s concepts related to the inner realities of being human. Sigmund Freud was aware of his own rather tenuous position in the scientific community as is evidenced in how he opened his first lecture in the Five Lectures on Psycho-Analysis made at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1909. Prior to Freud’s work, the medical and scientific communities, along with a certain number of enlightened intellectuals were aware that the individual has both a conscious and unconscious mind.
