Classical Greek Civilization: Tragedies and Fears Fear and Tragedy. Many have their own ways of defining these two words. Some might say tragedy is a “great personality engaged in a struggle that ends disastrously.” “A representation of human unhappiness.” (pg 4) or maybe “Means of pity and fear bringing about such emotions.” Like I said everyone has their own definitions; for me, tragedy is when something bad happens. Whether if it is war, a terrible accident, death of a loved one, or your pet running away. As for fear, there are many types of fear. The list never ends; there is fear of insects or animals. Fear of people, planes, cars, small spaces, death, being alone, the dark and so on. There are too many to count, and there is not a certain or single definition we use for both. The most common for fear is “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.” And for tragedy it would probably be “an event resulting in great loss and misfortune.” T......
