Getting HPV mandated debate speech Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The majority of people who get HPV are women. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer killer among women worldwide, killing almost 300,000 women every year. The majority of these women who get HPV will not be able to afford the shot. The $200 dollars per three-shot series is a significant cost and logistical challenge for many families.
However dont think you are safe dudes, HPV also affects men in these families with limited incomes. Heterosexual men are also at risk, and can be infected by the virus. These infections can possibly lead to warts, or cancer of the penis. Also, the virus can be transmitted in genital/anal contact in homosexual men. Genital HPV is so common that it could be considered a normal part of being a sexually active person. At least 20 million people in the U.S. are currently infected with genital HPV, and around half of all sexually active women between 18 and 22 will become infected. A form of prevention is needed here in California, and we are proposing the prevention to be mandatory so it wont spread.
