Stem cells are classified as undifferentiated cells that have the ability to transform into other cell types. They have the ability to be a repair system for a body by restoring other cells, as long as the targeted organ is living. Stem cell research has proven to be beneficial in lab testing environments for treatment of many different neurological disorders. Multiple sclerosis, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, and cerebral vascular accidents (strokes) are just a few neurological diseases that have shown positive results from stem cell therapy.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, autoimmune disease that destroys the myelin sheath that protects the nerve cells. It affects approximately 400,000 people in the United States, and 2.5 million people worldwide.
