Located in the Limbic system, is the hippocampus. When damage occurs to this area many implications can emerge. The most significant damage from this injury is memory loss, or the inability to store new information and process through long term memory [Hinrichs, 2006]. This can also be referred to as Anterograde Amnesia, or short term memory loss. The movie Momento displays a case study of injury to the hippocampus and the brain, and illustrates the injury by a character named Leonard, who claims he has anterograde amnesia. How the disability is supposed to affect an individual and how Leonard is reacting will be discussed. With memory loss or anterograde amnesia, certain conditioning or learning through repetition may be accomplished. Many doctors explain that after conditioning and repetition, an individual may not be able to recall memory, yet through intuition the individual can make a decision that can better his or hers current state.
