The comparison between Chain and Marlow bridge Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In architecture there are many great works, but it is not always easy to compare them. Most great works are designed for a particular location and a particular purpose, because it is in this uniqueness that they rise above mediocrity and the sameness that plagues so many of the contemporary structures. Two great works of architectural engineering by William Tierney Clark, however, do share the same basic design while still being considered great works. They are the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest, and the Marlow Bridge in the town of Marlow, England. This essay will examine the history behind these bridges, their common features, how the different demands could be met by these structures, and how their history has remained strikingly parallel. Budapest came into existence as a single interconnected city with the construction of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge between Buda and Pest. It tied the two cities together into a single unit, and allowed communication and travel between the two without interruption or hindrance.
