Nightjohn Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Nightjohn Even though they told the same basic story, there were still many differences between the book and the movie versions. For example, the book showed a more realistic view of how badly slaves had it, but the movie only showed a watered-down version. One thing that the book and the movie both showed similarly was the importance of knowledge to the slaves. Lastly, the book was much more intense because of its more realistic descriptions. It’s obvious that the film and book were directed towards different audiences with their difference of content. The way slaves were treated in Gary Paulsen’s Nightjohn was crazy. The plantation owner, Mr. Waller, didn’t care about the connections of his slaves’ families. He would break slaves down as much as he could through making everyone watch each other’s punishments. Waller also forced the slaves to work an insane amount of hours every day. Paulsen’s was a much more realistic story. Although it was still terrible, the things shown in the movie weren’t nearly as bad as they really were. The film version of the story did a good jo......
