To Whom It May Concern: Upon reading ÒShakespeare Alive!Ó by Joseph Papp and Elizabeth Kirkland, I have gained much knowledge and insight about Shakespeare and the Elizabethan times, where as I had little to no knowledge of this topic prior to taking the Shakespeare course. I greatly believe that ÒShakespeare Alive!Ó is an extremely appropriate book for the Shakespeare curriculum and should definitely be required to read. I believe that ÒShakespeare Alive!Ó would give readers much insight and understanding of the Elizabethan age. Not only does it provide information, but it also explores specific and important themes of that time. Themes such as, what daily life was like for an Elizabethan, foreigners & immigrants in England, the status of women, when the theatre was born, and finally, Shakespeare himself! By reading this book, I learned that life in England was a struggle for most in the late 16th century. Most people lived with their families on the countryside.
