Thurgood Marshall Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

THURGOOD MARSHALL Thurgood Marshall was born July 2 in 1908 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born as Thoroughgood but later shortened it to Thurgood. Because of his father’s positive influence and also being forced to read the constitution in school, Thurgood developed appreciation for the constitution and for rule of law. Thurgood was married in 1929 to Vivian “Buster” Burey. She passed away from cancer in 1955. Ten months after the death of his first wife, he remarried to Cecilia “Cissy” Suyat. They were married for 35 years and they had two sons together, Thurgood Jr., who went on to be a top aide to US President Clinton and John W., who became a US Marshals Service Director and is currently serving as Virginia Secretary of Public Safety. In 1930, he graduated from Lincoln University. After graduation, Thurgood wished to apply to University of Maryland school of Law, but found he would not be accepted because of segregation policy. So later in his career as a civil rights litigator, he sued the University for this Unjust Policy and won under the court case Murray......
