American philosopher, Henry David Thoreau expressed a strong belief in a theory known as “Civil Disobedience.” This theory states that if a person knows intuitively that a law is unfair, they are enjoined to contravene that law. I firmly agree with Thoreau’s ideas, due to the necessity of transgressions against immoral and unjust law, and the positive results of such disobedience. Evidence of truth in this statement can be found in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest where McMurphy refuses to abide by the rules in the ward. In addition, during the civil rights movement brave individuals stood against the law, displaying civil disobedience. In the 1950s, two significant people made history through the practice of civil disobedience. Rosa Louise Parks and Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were two noteworthy civil rights activist who followed their intuition for the simple fact that it was right. The first of December was a cold day in 1955, and Mrs. Parks boarded the Cleveland Avenue bus. After paying her fare she took a seat in the front row in the colored section of the bus......
