2. Topic and justification The topic I have focused on is the “social environment” of the Rabbitte family. I’ve chosen this topic because it is more or less recognisable for me. My parents were also from the working class society. They both didn’t finish their schools and they started to work when they were very young. The neighbourhood where I grow up wasn’t so high standard. The neighbours on both sides abused their children, there language was terrible and they produced always a lot of noise and rubbish. 3. Summary When Shannon Rabbitte, the eldest daughter of the family, gets pregnant out of wedlock it is a great shock to her family and sets tongues wagging throughout the whole neighbourhood. She refuses to reveal who the father is, but when rumours start to spread that it's one of her friend’s father, she invents a story about having had a one night stand with a foreign sailor and keeps on telling it until people start believing her.
