"Beauty" Beauty. This word seems simple enough. The Oxford English Dictionary defines it as "that quality or combination of qualities which affords keen pleasure to other senses (e.g. that of hearing), or which charms the intellectual or moral faculties, through inherent grace, or fitness to a desired end." Percy Bysshe Shelley, in his poem, Hymn to Intellectual Beauty, explores the concept of beauty and alludes that beauty embodies human happiness. Although beauty is a prevailing theme in Romantic Literature, Shelley doesn't seem to view it as a supernatural entity, but rather as a capability within the mind. In Hymn to Intellectual Beauty he shares with his readers his "spiritual" journey, starting with the questions, then the search for answers, and finally the realization that there really is no answer. His name for this "power" is Beauty. Shelley exhibits the qualities of beauty mainly through nature. Like other Romantics, he finds a sense of pleasure in it.
