Poverty in 18th Century England Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Why has poverty become such a major problem by the end of the 18th century? What attempts did politicians make to deal with the problem up to 1950? Poverty in the developed world has always been relative, and has always existed. In Britain, it was traditionally accepted as part of everyday life for a long time; a tiny minority, comprising of the aristocracy and royalty, owned all the wealth and lands of England, whereas the rest were poor – and the rich liked to keep it that way, through any means (the 1831 Peasant’s Revolt was put down by force). However, ever since the 16th century, poverty had been growing into more and more of a dilemma for the upper classes, finally reaching a climax by the end of the 18th century. Why had poverty become such an issue by the end of the Georgian Era? How did politicians try to tackle it up to 1950? There are many factors explaining England’s abject state of poverty attained by the end of the 18th century.
