Wi-Fi hot spots are now available at airports, hotels, restaurants, cafes and even downtown locations. These hot spots attract consumers by offering them free access to internet, sometimes there is a small fee involved. The use of these spots has been on the rise. But one major aspect that most of the users dont realize is that how secured is that communication. Connecting to a hot spot can be an open invitation to danger.
States are also getting aware of the possible threats when connected to a public hot spot. In New York, Westchester County, businesses offering public Wi-Fi access to the Internet are required to post an official sign on the wall that advises the users to "Install a firewall or other computer security measure." Said county CIO, Norm Jacknis. "On these networks, there's unfettered access to confidential data, and we have a problem with that."
