Where is the ‘I’ in the human body? Dennett’s article entitled ‘Where am I?’ requires us to question the very mentality of human consciousness and behaviour. Although he puts forward a nonsensical scientific fable it still serves its purpose forcing readers to question where the ‘I’ in the human body dwells internally and where our human consciousness really lies. Dennett’s first argument [Where Hamlet goes there goes Dennett] leads him to question his prior beliefs and dispositions regarding the ‘I’ in the human body after he experienced disembodiment which lead him to reflect upon the ‘immateriality of the soul’ (Dennett). After his bodily (Hamlet’s) processes failed in Tulsa he came to the realization that the ‘I’ is not within the material existence of his body, but rather concludes that the ‘I’ miraculously ‘traveled at the speed of light from Oklahoma to Houston’ (Dennett) to be reunited with his brain (Yorick).
