This paper will define virtue as knowledge, according to Meno. Socrates, however, contrary to Menos belief describes virtue is unable to be taught due to the lack of adequate teachers. The conclusion will label virtue as a recollection of past experiences. Meno leaves us hanging between defining virtue as straight knowledge or as a kind of mysterious wisdom revealed to us by the gods without understanding.
Menos explanation of virtue being defined as a part of education is supported by the definition of wisdom. It seems that virtue must be a kind of wisdom, which we usually assume to be one of the acquirable benefits of education. According to the previous discussion between Meno and Socrates, virtue is a good thing.
