How Far Will One Go? A Different Perception of Miss Emily Greirson Love is something every woman dreams about. Every young girl spends at least afternoon one dreaming of her wedding, of her prefect man, of her happiness. Love is thought to bring endless happiness. In William Faulkner’s A Rose for Emily, Emily had an overbearing father who didn’t want her to experience this love. No man was good enough for Emily Greirson. Emily’s father wanted to make sure his little girl stay his until the day he was to die, and he did just that. He eventually died. Miss Emily was left alone. She lost the only man she ever loved. She was alone in a town full of people. She was left with no one to talk to, no one to laugh with except the old manservant. She became lonely and odd to the townspeople. Emily simply wanted to be loved. She wanted to be accompanied. Her goal was not to be perceived as weird. She was simply dealing with her father’s death and her loneliness the only way she knew how.
