Great Expectations Act 1 Scene 1 Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Show how well Dickens establishes his characters creates atmosphere in the opening chapter of Great Expectations. The well known novel Great Expectations was written by Charles Dickens in 1860-61. It’s a story about the journey of a young low class boy called Pip growing up to become a fine city gentleman. He starts off very lonely, without friends or much family. During his life he gets many opportunities, one of which he meets a girl Estella. He grows to love her, but to her, he is just a common village boy. This encourages him to want to become more of a gentleman. He then gets sent to London and is given the chance to become a fine gentleman, but all with the help of an anonymous person, an ex convict Magwitch whom pip helped as a child by giving him food and tools to free him of his chains. In This essay I will be examining the techniques Dickens uses to establish and make atmosphere.
