The Crucible Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Speaking the Truth Dignity, honor, principles and fighting for strong beliefs are all common principles that people believe in. People deal with ethical dilemmas everyday and how we handle them determine whether we are righteous or not. In The Crucible these morals are put to the test by John Proctor, a well respected man in the community with a deep secret, who evolves into a hero with high moral standards. He develops because of Abigail, a ruthless girl who accuses the townspeople that they perform witchcraft, which is impossible to prove. As the town uncovers the antics and are furious, the girls start to cry out names of others that have allegedly seen the Devil. She accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft in hopes of separating her from John to continue their affair, however, ultimately points a finger at John when he decides to stay loyal to his wife. Within the majority of the townspeople, John Proctor does not hesitate to converse the truth and establish what is morally acceptable in this time of disarray.
