One day in 1963, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. led 53 colored people into downtown Birmingham to protest the segregation laws. The protest resulted in an arresting of all the 53 colored people, which caused the clergymen of this Southern town in Alabama to compose a letter appealing to the black population to stop their demonstrations. Also, this letter appeared in the Birmingham Newspaper. In response, Martin Luther King wrote a letter that would mark the turning point of the Civil Rights movement and provide enduring inspiration to the struggle for racial equality.
