Respond to King's Letter from the Birmingham Jail Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

One day in 1963, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. led 53 colored people into downtown Birmingham to protest the segregation laws. The protest resulted in an arresting of all the 53 colored people, which caused the clergymen of this Southern town in Alabama to compose a letter appealing to the black population to stop their demonstrations. Also, this letter appeared in the Birmingham Newspaper. In response, Martin Luther King wrote a letter that would mark the turning point of the Civil Rights movement and provide enduring inspiration to the struggle for racial equality. Martin Luther King's “Letter from Birmingham Jail” strives to justify the desperate need for nonviolent direct action and the absolute corruption of unjust laws together with what a just law is. Even though he was completely disappointed with the Church because they had not lived up to their responsibilities as people of God, there has been an increase probability of the “Negro” resorting to extreme disorder and killing.
