Directed by twin brothers, Allen and Albert Hughes, Menace II Society portrays the violent summer of 1993, as experienced by African-American men in the projects of Watts, California. This paper displays how Menace II Society portrays how the absence of a positive father figure in the lives of young men was the primary reason of delinquent, malicious behavior. Menace II Society captures the desperation and mindlessness of angry hood youths. Instead of glorifying their violent ways, the Hughes brothers present these characters as being trapped by the ghetto, and exemplifies how they use this burden as an excuse to live recklessly, steal, and kill.
The movie shows that it takes a vast amount of ambition to change the innate mentality of a person who has developed negative character because they lacked a positive male influence.
