Personal Identity Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

What is it that sets us apart not only from other species, but also from each other as individuals? The issue boils down to matters of Psychological and the Physiological. The Psychological approach takes into account such things as emotions and feelings and self-awareness, whereas the physiological approach focuses on the role of the body and brain in determining exactly who we are. I think that if this matter is going to be debated on scientific grounds, speculation on ideas that have not or cannot be proven by science in some way should not be made. For this reason I believe that the most important component of personal identity is our brain. At the same time concepts such as the soul also are vital in defining who we are as people. It is best described as our relationship between mind and soul, the two elements connected to the body which most dictate its functions.
