The Johnstown Flood National Historical Site
On the afternoon of May 31, 1889, a neglected dam at storm-swollen Lake Conemaugh gave way, sending a wall of water fourteen miles downstream to Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The prospering industrial city was nearly destroyed; more than two thousand people were killed, and tens of thousands were left homeless. This was a lot of information to take in all at once, seeing this was my first time visiting the Johnstown Flood Historical Site. I was very overwhelmed with the beautiful view and all the information about the flood site.
