Being a teen in this day and age is harder than ever. There are so many other aspects of a teens life that never use to exist 30-40 years ago. It has only been in the last 15-20 years where things have changed. From 1980 to 1992, the rate of suicide among young adolescents increased 120 percent. As well 1 in 15 teenagers say they currently use both alcohol and illegal drugs (Children's Defense Fund, 1991). The problems facing youth are so immense, many adults throw up their hands in frustration. Furthermore in many cases, teens are viewed as "unsalvageable by the media. It is definitely a different atmosphere for teens growing up in todays society compared to when the baby boomers where teenagers. The baby boomers struggled with other issues like war feminism movement, rise of aids and the outbreak of drugs; just to name a few. When compared to todays society teenagers are in a whole different ball game.
