Music is all about your roots. Its where you came from that makes your music. The Beatles wouldnt of been the Beatles if they where Canadian. So why would you think Elvis to be anything other then a southern rock legend. You can take Elvis out of the south but you cant take the south out of him. According to Rolling Stone magazine, "it was Elvis who made rock 'n' roll the international language of pop." A PBS documentary described Presley as "an American music giant of the 20th century who single-handedly changed the course of music and culture in the mid-1950s." His recordings, dance moves, attitude and clothing came to be seen as embodiments of rock and roll.
Its the fact that he was so musically colorblind, not only to one certain type of music but to all of it. Elvis played everything from bluegrass to gospel not ever thinking is this something I should or shouldnt play but as do I make this sound good or what. He broke a lot of different barriers and brought a lot of people together to make new music.
