The controversy
The controversy surrounding cloning for stem cell research boils down to a basic procedural problem: Creating an embryo to destroy it.
Cloning for the purpose of stem cell research involves creating an embryo from ones own DNA, extracting the stem cells and then discarding what is left of the cloned embryo. Or embryonic stem cells can be harvested from an unborn fetus, either from abortions or miscarriages.
Cloning and stem cell research have added a new dimension in the abortion debate -- those on the pro life side crying foul. They believe destroying a cloned human embryo, for whatever purpose, is destroying a human life.
