Lord Alfred Tennyson Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Alfred Tennyson was born in Sommersby, England, a small town outside of London on August 6, 1809. He was born the fourth out of twelve children with his father, George, being a major part of a church. His father was a reverend and taught his sons a private education. Ironically enough he was an alcoholic and a lot of times he was unable to live out a Christian life. Even though his father was a major part of the church, when he was on his deathbed, he claimed not to be a Christian. His mother, Elizabeth, supported the Evangelical movement and did not regard herself as a Christian either. Even as a young teenager Tennyson considered himself as a poet. At the age of fourteen, he and his brother composed a collection of poetry titled “Poems by Two Brothers.” Tennyson’s childhood idols were Byron and Scott of poetry. In 1827, Tennyson studied at Trinity College in Cambridge, England from 1827 to 1831.
