Defending Slavery: Economic analysis of Proslavery arguments Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

According to the several documents found in Paul Finkelman's Defending Slavery, many Americans did not want slavery to come to an end. Was it simply the issue of the cotton market that was a concern to Americans? If so, what was the reason for this? What roles did slaves fill in the economic structure of the Old South? What was the truth behind all this? Was it some type of brutality that Americans enjoyed watching on their spare time? If all humans are born, equal why not the African Americans? Is it the color of the African Americans skin or where they orginally come from? Treating the African Americans any different from the whites was just plain wrong because after all whether different color, from different backgrounds or whatever the problem maybe everyone out there is the same, we are all human beings. Thomas Jefferson in his notes of the State of Virginia in 1787 noted a proposed bill for the gradual emanicapation of slaves in Virginia.
