A drug to ease the pain is a drug that kills the same. What started off as a prescription drug, normally prescribed as a pain reliever for people with medium to high pain levels, can have effects when abused. Pricey, but easy to obtain, Oxycontin has become one of the most abused drugs in America, especially amongst teenagers. Teenagers do not realize the effects of taking Oxycontin and the harm it causes their bodies and lives. They do not realize how quickly they can become addicted, and the long term dependency that will plague them. Once addicted, a person cannot go one day or even a few hours without the drug. Without it, people start going through withdrawals. The withdrawal process for many is quite unbearable, it drives them to continue use, even against their will. Something needs to be done to help reduce the teen use of Oxycontin and help prevent the many purposeless deaths every year.
