Business Problem Analysis Bim Grewal Research 341 RES341 Ghassem Zarbi June 12, 2006 Business Problem Analysis Introduction A significant number of drug users have contact with the criminal justice system. Fully 80 percent of offenders admitted to federal corrections have substance abuse problems (Motiuk et al., 2003). It is important to identify who is using and abusing illegal substances for a variety of safety and treatment issues. While focusing on protecting society from the harms associated with drug abuse, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is one of the key players in identifying the prevalence and extent of illicit drug use among offenders both in the community and in prison. In CSC there a several questions that are asked to determine why these crimes are committed. The following are some of the questions which are explored throughout this paper: 1. What kinds of crimes are increasing due to illicit drug use? 2. What kinds of crimes do you think can be prevented? How? 3. What makes some people become criminals?
