This documentary, Monkey Dance produced by Julie Mallozzi, is about three different immigrants who all took different paths to achieve happiness after leaving the corrupt country of Cambodia. Cited as two reasons for departing were: being forced to wear only black clothes and being limited to one meal of rice per day. The only option for these families was to leave their heritage in search of a better life for their kids. Monkey Dance portrays how hard it is for an immigrant to adapt to a new culture, a problem this country is dealing with right now.
The three families decided to relocate to Lowell, Massachusetts. It isnt the greatest location, living in the projects, but it is much better than the poor living conditions in Cambodia. One of the characters, Samnang Hor, a 16-year-old born in a refugee camp in Thailand, was the first of his brothers to successfully complete high school.
