Dead Man's Path
In Chinua Achebe's short story, "Dead Man's Path," Michael Obi, recently appointed headmaster of Ndume Central in Nigeria, Africa he wants things to be perfect for the first visit of his supervisor. Michael Obi builds his garden across the ancestor path of the natives and blocks the entrance to the path. The supervisor comes to evaluate him on the same day that this is happening. The main character is the headmaster Michael Obi.
Michael Obi is a person who doesn't believe in the old customs of the villagers, and he doesnt even respect their culture either. The setting of the story takes place in Nigeria, Africa in January 1949. Due to the setting of the story it comes out that the villagers have some sort of beliefs quite differently than ours, such as that the path that went across the school compound led away there dead, allow ancestors to visit. Michael and his wife won't let them continue with their beliefs, so this is the conflict that leads to a small war between the villagers and Michael Obi's school.
