Unfortunately when we learn about the Holocaust in history class, we receive the summarized, formulaic version from a history textbook. If teachers used more literature, such as Night, students would have a better grasp of historical events. The first person point of view used in most literature is key to helping the author bring a point across to the reader. The reader is able to peer into the main character’s mind, viewing their emotions and thoughts. While traveling in the cattle cars the reader is able to envision how Wiesel felt concerning the people traveling with him and his predicament. In contrast, a textbook would merely state a vague description of the sufferings of the Jews on board the cattle cars. For example, Wiesel considered Mrs. Schächter to be “mad” and......
