Great Expectations by Charles Dickens Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Some people tend to have multiple personalities they use to show different emotions and feelings while at different settings. For example, a child might put on one personality at school, and another entirely different at home. Wemmick from Charles DickensÂ’ Great Expectations is a prime example of one who has two personalities. As discovered by his good friend Pip, Wemmick also possessed a different lingo for both home and work. Dickens characterizes Wemmick in many different ways, but mainly contrasts his life at home compared to his life at work. Wemmick is characterized by Dickens through a physical description, manner of speech, manner of action, all effected upon depending on the setting. Throughout Great Expectations John Wemmick, or just Wemmick, is physically described as, Casting my eyes on Mr. Wemmick as we went along, to see what he was like in the light of day, I found him to be a dry man, rather short in stature, with a square wooden face, whose expression seemed to have been imperfectly chipped out with a dull-edged chisel.
