Guns, Germs, and Steel, The Fates, of Human Societies (1999) by Jared Diamond Jared Diamond is a physiologist who wrote this book based on the question: Why is it that you white people developed so much cargo and brought it to New Guinea, but we black people had little cargo of our own? Diamond attempts to define why the Fertile Crescent, China, Eurasia became more advanced than other civilizations such as Africa, Australia, and the Americas. The author explains that four proponents lead to the immediate advancement of a civilization, being: the availability of plants and animals for domestication, the affecting rates of diffusion and migration, and the continental differences in area. The author concedes in the epilogue that his entire argument is neither provable nor causal because history as of today is not a science like physics for which laboratory experimentation and replication can take place. Even with those premise, the facts presented by the author are overwhelmingly convincing, and in tern leads to a very eloquently, informative book.
