The Lottery written by Shirley Jackson uses different types of imagery and symbolism to capture the audience. Specifically the name serves as a tactile because it evokes feelings. Lottery can be defined as a draw, game of chance, sweepstakes or raffle. The setting allows the audience to feel happy and relaxed. Tradition plays a large role in peoples lives even if they dont know understand why the tradition is practiced. The tradition of the lottery stirs up new emotions with the gathering of the people, the explanation of things to be done or used in the tradition, and the replacement of the events within the tradition.
