Ambition in Macbeth Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the play Macbeth numerous murders take place. The king of Scotland, Duncan, Banquo, and the residents of the castle of Macduff were all victims of the wrath of Macbeth. It could be said that each murder had factors that caused it. The predominant factor in every murder is the ambition of Macbeth. Macbeth first murders King Duncan. This murder is definitely the most controversial. It could be debated whether it was Lady Macbeth, the witches, or Macbeth’s ambition that provoked the killing. However, it can be seen, through quotes, that is was in fact Macbeth’s ambition that was the primary incentive for the Murder. Macbeth’s ambition finally persuades him to commit the murder during an hallucination. Macbeth responds to this with the words, “Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.” (Shakespeare Act 2. SC 1. Line44). With these words Macbeth has already begun to submit to his ambition. The quote refers to his hallucination in which the dagger represents his ambition. Shortly after this stage of the play......
