Lady Macbeth: The Foulest of them all Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, one could argue that Macbeth is motivated to commit his evil acts by numerous forces. Some of these motivations could have been the witches in the play who gave Macbeth the first idea that he would be king, or his own ambition that started to take over in the play. However, there was one undeniable motivation, Lady Macbeth. She pushed and provoked Macbeth constantly to commit these evils. So, even though Macbeth committed these acts, Lady Macbeth was the most ruthless character in the first two acts of the play. When Macbeth was initially informed of the fact that he was to be King, (I. iii.53), he fully decided that he was going to do nothing, “If chance will have me King, why, chance may crown me, without my stir.” (I.iii.154), whereas when Lady Macbeth was knowledgeable of her husbands’ prophecy, she began to cogitate a course of action for her husband to become King, and, more importantly, for herself to become Queen. At that moment, she doubted the capability of Macbeth, that is, she thought he wouldn’t be able to perform the act needed t......
