Explicating the poem "Mirror" by sylvia plath Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Explication of “Mirror” Written in 1961 by the heroine Sylvia Plath, “Mirror” is considered as one of the most recognized and eminent poems which handles issues on the status of women in society and the organization of society in regards to male domination and the consideration of women as beauty objects rather than intellectual human beings. After reading the poem, it was obvious that it does not follow a specific rhyme scheme or rhythm and is a free verse poem. A free verse poem follows the natural rhythm of the language making the poem an immense pleasure to read and carrying the reader throughout the lines of the poem with great simplicity and modesty. ‘Mirror’ is composed of two different stanzas in which each suggests a diverse message and thought. The first stanza strictly described the appearance and traits of the mirror “I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions” (Sylvia Plath; line 1), “I am not cruel, only truthful” (Sylvia Plath; line 4). The second stanza talks about the time consumed by women starring at the mirror and how they always strive to achi......
