The Arab-American and Chaldean Council Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The Arab-American and Chaldean Council (ACC) is a non-profit organization that was founded in August of 1979 in Detroit when a one-person office was opened in the International Institute in Detroit to serve the unique population of immigrants. In 1991, ACC received honor as the first Arab American organization to receive national recognition by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services (CARF) for services provided by its behavioral health program. In 1992, ACCs clients nearly doubled from 19,000 to 38,000 as refugees and asylum seekers of the Gulf War crisis continued to escape and settle in Michigan. The ACC worked with 421 clients in its first year and within ten years ACC opened an additional 12 outreach centers throughout Metro Detroit, then serving over 78,000 clients and providing 39 outreach centers today.
