Stress: A Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy Perspective Prolonged stress and anxiety can have many harmful effects for individuals. The longer the duration and greater the degree, the more detrimental effects to the psychological and physiological wellness of an individual. There are several interventions that can be utilized to prevent a stressor from becoming debilitating (e.g., progressive relaxation, autogenic training, meditation, etc.). Distress may also be relieved by seeking psychotherapy in order to evaluate the stressful situation, the cognitive appraisal of the stressor, the emotional and physiological reactions due to the situation, and the behavioral consequences an individual experiences as a result of the stress. There are a several techniques and therapies for relieving behavioral consequences of distress. One of which is called Rational emotive behavior therapy.
