The Federal Reserve Board (the Fed) uses this influence to move the economy in a particular direction. The monetary policy affects the gross domestic product, the employment or unemployment picture, inflation, and interest rates. It has a circular affect, usually beginning with a pronouncement about interest rates. The financial community uses this pronouncement to raise or lower consumer and commercial interest rates, which influences spending habits of individuals and businesses, which influences companiesÂ’ production capabilities and capacities, which influences the retail prices of goods and services from one period to the next, which influences the Fed to make a pronouncement about interest rates.
