Uncle Tom's Cabin Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Uncle Tom’s Cabin During a time of great separation, when the North and South were divided, many neglected to learn or realize the issues involving slavery. The people of the North did not know of the horrible situation of slave trade happening in the South. Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin to open up the eyes of the North as well as the rest of the world to the miseries and heartache present in the South. Uncle Tom’s Cabin takes place in the middle of the nineteenth century. The reader is first introduced to Arthur Shelby, a gentleman and slaveholder, and Mr. Haley, a slave buyer. They are negotiating over some of Mr. Shelby’s slaves because he is in great financial debt and needs the money before he loses his land and property. Mr. Shelby tells Mr. Haley of his finest slave Uncle Tom, who is a good and trustful man, and very religious. Mr. Haley, however, wants Uncle Tom plus another slave and Mr. Shelby decides on Harry, the son of his maid, Eliza. Mr. Shelby informs Mr. Haley that the deal will be finalized after he speaks to his wife. Mrs. Shelby, a good-heart......
